The Barras family have been involved in commercial property letting in the West Lothian area through Westport Properties since 1974.

Originally started by ‘auld’ Chris as an adjunct to his frozen food business and as a way to make shops available to that business, Hotco Ltd., now part of Iceland Frozen Foods Ltd., it became obvious to him that there was a need for properly managed commercial letting of fullly finished shop, office and industrial units to start up business people, the self employed and SME’s in the wake of the demise of Leyland & Plessey.

Now the business is run by Chris’s daughter Linda and his son Christopher. (Tof), who are now starting to expand into domestic lettings using short assured tenancies.

In the early days most of the lettable units were converted older buildings but following a sell-off the frozen food business and the whole property portfolio in 1979 to Wm Low & Co., there started an ambitious program of new building and now 98% of the properties we rent out have been built to our high standard specifications by our in-house management company, Ceebar (Properties) Ltd. who are now also deeply involved in the day to day maintenance of all the properties.

For nearly forty years Westport Properties have concentrated on offering facilities to start up new businesses and whereas, originally, like most property companies of the time, they offered only full repairing and insurance leases with all their delays, expense and commitment, they were pioneers of the much cheaper easy-in easy-out form of letting with internally only repairing requirements as standard.

We now offer a range of licenses and lease licenses offering tailored facilities with the minimum of red tape so much so that available properties can usually be rented within hours of viewing.
